Accessibility statement for the Light Industrial website

We want everyone who runs a workshop, a stores desk or a buying office to be able to read this site and get in touch, whatever device or assistive technology they use.

Our commitment

Accessibility is part of how we build the site, not a check at the end. We check new pages with a keyboard and a screen reader, and we fix problems people report.

The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not had the site audited by an outside party and do not claim full conformance yet.

What we have done

  • Headings. Every page has one H1 and uses H2 and H3 in order, so screen reader users can move by heading.
  • Landmarks. Pages use header, nav, main and footer elements. Navigation menus are labelled.
  • Contrast. Body text and buttons are set against their backgrounds to reach the 4.5:1 ratio for normal text and 3:1 for large text, on both the dark background and the light panels. Where we found a panel falling short we darkened it.
  • Keyboard. Every link, button, form field and menu can be reached and operated with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring. The mobile menu closes with Escape.
  • Reduced motion. The site's styles honour the "reduce motion" setting in your system. When it is on, animations and transitions are cut to almost nothing, including the fade-in of sections and the animated diagram on the Home page.
  • Forms. Every field has a visible label. Errors are described in text, not colour alone.
  • Text. Pages are built to reflow on a phone and when text is zoomed. Every image has alt text, and decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
  • Skip link. The legal pages start with a "Skip to content" link. We are adding it to the rest of the site.

Known limitations

  • The navigation and footer are built by a script after the page loads. With JavaScript turned off they do not appear. The page content itself still does.
  • Several sections on the Home, module and pricing pages fade in as you scroll. With JavaScript blocked they may stay hidden. The legal pages do not use this effect.
  • The demo booking opens Calendly in a new tab. Calendly's accessibility is Calendly's responsibility, and you can email us to book instead.
  • Icons are loaded from a third-party library. If it fails to load, the icon is missing, but the text next to it still reads correctly.
  • Some sections on the Home page place text over photographs. We have darkened the overlays, but contrast may still fall short on a few phones in bright light.
  • The site has not yet been tested with every combination of browser and screen reader.

How to report a problem

If something on the site is hard to use, tell us. Email donovan@lightindustrial.co.za with the page address, what you were trying to do and the browser or assistive technology you use. We reply within 24 hours on working days and aim to fix a confirmed barrier within 10 working days. If we cannot fix it quickly, we will give you the information another way.
